Puff Pastry Apple Roses
Posted in /Cooking/Desserts on Wednesday, December 20, 2017
This is an impressive looking but easy to make dessert that my students made. They were a little hesitant at first but once they got going they didn't want to stop at one pan of roses! I will take more step-by-step pictures when I make this next.
Ingredients
2 apples
2 sheets of puffed pastries, thawed (one box)
2 Tablespoons of lemon juice
cinnamon
sugar
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
2. Remove puffed pastries from freezer and thaw according to package
3. Slice the apples in half from top to bottom
4. Remove the core ends and then scoop out the core in the center
5. Slice the apples into very thin slices, like you would for Hasselback Potatoes but all the way through.
6. Fill a medium sized bowl half full of water and squeeze the lemon juice into the water.
7. Place the sliced apples in the water and microwave for 5 minutes until slightly tender.
8. Drain the apples into a colander and toss with cinnamon and sugar.
10. When pastries are thawed, place them flat on a floured surface.
11. Roll the pastries out with a rolling pin the flatten just a little more.
12. Cut each pastry into 6 equal slices.
13. Place 7-9 apple slices along one half of the pastry slice with the peel side facing out.
14. Fold the pastry in half to cover the apples.
15. Starting on one end, roll the pastry and apples to the other end of the pastry and place in a muffin tin.
16. Continue with the other pieces of pastries until you have 12 apple roses.
17. Sprinkle the tops with a little more cinnamon sugar if desired.
18. Place a pan of water on the bottom rack of oven so the bottom of pastries do not burn.
19. Bake at 375 for 40 -45 minutes.
20. Top with a little powered sugar if desired as well. ENJOY!!!
