Blueberry Buckle

Most people associate memories with flavours. This is the recipe that I associate with Nana and evenings after the sunset at the shore. The cookbook she uses for the recipe opens directly to the page of the recipe, proving how often it is used. This is not a fancy or secret recipe it's actually out of a very old copy of the Gold Medal Flour cookbook. I'm sure many families have used similar recipes, but it is one of my favourite flavour memories.
Ingredients
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup softened butter
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
2 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
Crumble topping ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup softened butter
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375F
- Grease and flour a 9 inch square pan
- Cream the butter, sugar and egg together until soft
- In a separate bowl sift together the flour, baking powder and salt
- Add the flour and milk to the butter bowl a little at a time until combined
- Carefully fold in the blueberries and press into the prepared pan.
- Combine the crumble topping ingredients; careful not to over mix and make a dough
- Sprinkle the crumble on top of the blueberry layer
- Bake for 45-50 minutes
