Buttercream Frosting

Posted in /Cooking/Desserts/Cake on Sunday, April 02, 2017

This classic buttercream frosting is a must have for your recipe collection. Sometimes, I add in a touch of cocoa powder for the extra chocolatey touch or a bit of food colouring to make a colour statement!

Ingredients

3 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 to 2 tablespoons whipping cream or milk
Optional 1/2 block (4oz) of cream cheese (if you want to cut the extra sweet flavor and add richness)
Food colouring

Directions

  1. In a standing mixer fitted with a paddle, mix together sugar and butter.
  2. Mix on low speed until well blended and then increase speed to medium and beat for another 3 minutes.
  3. Add vanilla and cream and continue to beat on medium speed for 1 minute more, adding more cream if needed for spreading consistency.
  4. Use to frost cakes and cupcakes like Dutch Chocolate Cupcakes
